Orlando Bloom came scarily close to swimming with sharks without a cage recently.

The actor went paddleboarding in Malibu, Calif., on Sept. 14 and a huge great white shark started swimming next to him, something that would strike fear into most people, but not necessarily Orlando.

“Paddle Boarding With Great Whites,” he captioned an Instagram aerial video, which was captured by a friend.

At several moments in the minute-long video, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star, paddling from his knees for stability, appeared to look down and monitor the shark’s swimming.

Orlando, who seems calm during the video, added in his Instagram caption, “When fear becomes your friend.” Orlando Bloom wearing a suit and tie: orlando bloom cannese © David Fisher/Shutterstock orlando bloom cannese

After sharing the video, Orlando’s followers reacted with disbelief. “Helllll naw,” rapper 2Chainz replied. “It’s a nope from me!,” another person said. Several others noted how beautiful the images looked with shark casually swimming in the thankfully-waveless water.

The man who took the video, who goes by the name The Malibu Artist, replied, “Awesome day man! You got some good looks of a large juvenile white shark. Happy for you! Something you’ll never forget. Very calm shark just chilling in Malibu!”

The Malibu Artist also posted a snippet of a video on his own Instagram, writing, “In this clip, I filmed @orlandobloom next to a nicely sized juvenile white shark. The opportunity to share some of my knowledge with Orlando, knowledge I’ve gained from the many scientists I’ve been fortunate enough to talk to and work with, was a highlight of my day. In the end, the real stars of the sea are the sharks. But having Legolas himself nearby. That’s pretty cool!”
