KC Chiefs Coach Andy Reid’s Son Britt Headed To Prison Over 5-Year-Old’s ‘Brain Damage’

A former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach and the son of the team’s current head coach, Andy Reid, will face trial on April 18, 2022 over a Feb 2021 crash that left a 5-year-old girl with “brain damage.”

Britt Reid, 36, stands accused of operating a vehicle under the influence after having recorded a “serum blood alcohol concentration” two hours after the crash of 0.113%, which is over the legal limit of 0.08%. For what it’s worth, he has remained steadfast in the number of drinks he insists he had prior to the accident.

Britt reportedly “hit two cars on an entrance ramp to a highway near the team facility” and “officers at the scene reported his eyes were red and bloodshot,” according to Pro Football Talk.

A 5-year-old victim of the crash “spent more than a week in a coma as a result of her injuries.” The victim reportedly could not “walk, eat or talk” properly after the incident.

The charge against Britt, a DWI causing serious physical injury, is a class D felony and carries with it one to seven years in prison.

At one point there was some loose chatter regarding how Britt’s looming status and legal issues would impact Andy Reid’s ability to coach the Chiefs. As it turns out, those concerns were overblown.

Kansas City kicked the 2021-22 NFL season off with a big victory over the Cleveland Browns in Week 1. Next up: a Week 2 showdown versus Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
