Mighty Ducks Star Shaun Weiss Scores First Acting Gig Since Kicking Meth Addiction
Mighty Ducks star Shaun Weiss has just landed his first acting gig since recovering from his drug addiction.
The former child star has been on the straight and narrow since 2020 after he was charged with burglary and being under the influence of methamphetamine.
After working really intensely on his sobriety, Weiss revealed the hard work has paid off.
He took to Instagram to announce he had scored a role in the upcoming film Jesus Revolution, writing: “John Erwin & Lions Gate for my first role in… a while.”
The world was first introduced to Weiss when he played Greg Goldberg in the Mighty Ducks films.
Following that success, he starred in TV shows like Boy Meets World, Freaks and Geeks and The Tony Danza Show.
He scored roles in several short projects during the 2010s.
Two years ago, the actor hit rock bottom when he was arrested by police.
Police were called to a home in Marysville, California after the homeowner notified cops a man was inside his garage and ‘did not belong there’.
A statement issued by Marysville Police said they found Weiss inside the homeowner’s car after he had ‘forced entry to gain access by shattering a window’.
The report also added that Weiss ‘displayed symptoms of being under the influence of methamphetamine’ and admitted that ‘the vehicle he was filtering through was not his’.
Following his arrest, actor and producer Drew Gallagher set up a GoFundMe page for Weiss to help him kick his addiction.
Funds raised through the campaign were used to pay rent at Weiss’ sober-living facility and his weekly groceries.
After graduating from drug court, Weiss continued his sobriety journey and worked at getting his acting career restarted.
His upcoming film, Jesus Revolution, will also star Kelsey Grammer, comedian Jim Gaffigan and The Kissing Booth’s Joel Courtney.
The film will tell the true story of the spiritual awakening of the Jesus Movement in the 1960s and its origins in a teenage hippie community in Southern California, according to Deadline.
No word yet on its release date, but the film is scheduled to premiere next year.
Hopefully, this means there’s a possibility of Weiss reprising his role in the second season of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.
