Joe Exotic is on his way to a new prison, amid an on-going health battle which has seen him vomit every day for the past six months.
The Tiger King star, 59, left a medical center in North Carolina but his new destination is not known, although he is hoping he will be close to his partner Seth Posey, who is in Texas.
The Netflix star is serving a 21 year jail sentence, after being convicted of two plots to hire two separate men to kill Big Cat Rescue owner Carole Baskin.
After his incarceration, Joe, real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage, was diagnosed with an aggressive prostate cancer, but revealed in the summer that he is in remission.
However his health woes have continued, thanks to a condition called common variable immunodeficiency, which means he has an increased risk of infections, and Joe has been sick for the last 180 days.
Joe had been at the Butner Federal Medical Centre in North Carolina, which houses inmates with special health needs but he is “currently in transit to a new prison”, his power of attorney, Tami Springer, told the Mirror.
She said in a statement: “He officially left Butner Federal Medical Center in North Carolina on Monday because he is finished with cancer treatment and is in remission.
“We do not know his final destination yet, but we do know that, because of his congenital disease called Common Variable Immune Deficiency (CVID), which requires regular blood infusions, he will be sent to another medical facility.
“He is still struggling with health issues that are most likely related to his radiation treatments and CVID.
Tami said that the former exotic zoo owner will undergo more tests to decide the best treatment for him.
“Joe is a fighter and continues to seek justice concerning his wrongful conviction,” she added.
A federal jury found the documentary star guilty on two counts of hiring to murder Tiger King co-star Carole in January 2020.
Prosecutors said he had offered an undercover FBI agent $10,000 to kill Carole, who runs a rescue sanctuary for big cats in Florida.
But, Joe maintains his innocence and his attorneys said in the case that he wasn’t being serious.
He was sentenced to 22 years in prison, but that was shortened by just one year in January this year.
Last year it was reported that Joe is hoping for a presidential pardon from US President Joe Biden.
Joe had been hoping to receive one from Donald Trump as he left office, but he was left off the list.
Speaking to the Mirror, Tami said: “We are asking President Biden to pardon him based on the facts that prove his innocence, in addition to his declining health.”
Tami has previously said that Joe will continue to speak his mind and push for his sentence to be reduced.
She explained: “He beat COVID in prison, he beat cancer, and now he has to beat the system and gain his freedom.”
