We’ve all been asked to do a bit of extra work at our jobs that grinds our gears and the same goes for TV journalists, it seems.
An Iowa sports reporter has gone viral after being asked to cover last week’s big “bomb cyclone” winter storm—and not holding back one bit on how much he hated it.
Reporting live from out in the elements in Waterloo, Iowa in the early morning of December 22, KWWL sports journalist Mark Woodley was downright cranky during every report he delivered–and the internet absolutely loved him for it.
Woodley said in his coverage, his usual beat–sports–was basically canceled most of last week due to the enormous winter storm that impacted nearly the entire country, and severely so in the Midwest, where some areas got upwards of two feet of snow and temperatures plunged into the single digits.
Presumably because he had nothing to cover, Woodley was asked to fill in and report on the weather, and he simply wasn’t having it.
Asked by his colleague “how ya feelin’ out there?” Woodley groused:
“Again, the same way I felt about eight minutes ago when you asked me that same question.”
Woodley went on to say:
“What better time to ask the sports guy to come in about five hours earlier than he would normally wake up, go stand out in the wind and the snow and the cold and tell other people not to do the same?”
He added:
“I didn’t even realize that there was a 3:30 also in the morning — until today.”
He then invited viewers to “tune in for the next couple hours to watch me progressively get crankier and crankier” before adding a sentiment that will be instantly familiar to anyone who lives in a cold climate.
“I’ve got good news, and I’ve got bad news. The good news is that I can still feel my face right now. The bad news is I kind of wish I couldn’t.”
