The beloved TikTok personality known as Epic Gamer Grandma has died at the age of 78, her family confirmed this week.

The social media star — whose real name was Agnes — had built a massive following of more than 3 million fans across platforms, charming viewers with her humor, warmth, and love of gaming. Her death was announced by her grandson, who goes by the name Culsans online.

In a heartfelt message shared to her social media pages on Tuesday, Dec. 23, Culsans said Agnes passed away on Sunday, Dec. 21, while holding the hand of her daughter, Pauline.

“She left this world the way she lived in it: surrounded by love,” he wrote.

The family also reflected on Agnes’ recent health struggles, saying they watched her “slowly lose her words” in the weeks leading up to her death.

Culsans first alerted followers to his grandmother’s condition back in October, explaining her absence from videos. On Oct. 16, he revealed that her chronic obstructive pulmonary disease had worsened significantly and that she had been rushed to the hospital by ambulance.

Just days later, he shared another update, saying Agnes had suffered a major stroke and would undergo intensive treatment and testing after doctors found an abnormality in her lungs.

By early November, the updates grew more difficult. In an emotional post, Culsans said her speech and cognition were severely impaired and that she was in constant pain.

“Most sentences are either entirely illegible or don’t make sense,” he wrote at the time. “Her bones are in agony, and it’s absolutely heartbreaking to witness.”

He added that she had become extremely frail and no longer looked like the grandmother he once knew, describing the experience as overwhelming for their family.

In his final tribute announcing her death, Culsans focused not on loss, but on the legacy Agnes leaves behind.

“Grandma showed that the internet doesn’t only belong to the young,” he wrote. “She showed that you can be in your seventies and still find new communities, new friendships, and new ways to express yourself.”

He added that she helped remind millions that older generations still have stories, humor, opinions, and love to share.
