Lamar Odom, the former NBA star and ex-husband of Khloé Kardashian, is once again facing legal trouble after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Las Vegas.

According to TMZ, the arrest occurred in the early hours of January 17. Odom, 46, was taken into custody and booked on a DUI charge, along with several traffic violations. Authorities say he was allegedly driving more than 41 miles per hour over the speed limit and was also cited for improper lane changes and failing to maintain his lane.

As of Saturday, Odom remained in custody.

The arrest marks another troubling moment for the former basketball player, who has been open for years about his struggles with substance abuse. Odom was previously arrested for DUI in 2013, during the height of his personal and professional turmoil.

In 2015, Odom nearly died after suffering a drug overdose at a Nevada brothel. At the time, Kardashian rushed to his side and remained closely involved in his care while he was hospitalized and placed on life support. The two were still legally married then, though their relationship had largely unraveled.

Odom and Kardashian were married from 2009 to 2016, with the later years of their marriage marked by infidelity, addiction, and repeated attempts at reconciliation. Kardashian initially filed for divorce in 2013 but paused the process during Odom’s medical crisis before refiling in early 2016.

In more recent years, Odom has spoken publicly about his efforts to stay sober. In a 2021 interview with Good Morning America, he said he had turned to ketamine therapy as part of his recovery.

“I went to rehab and did some other things, but ketamine came into my life at the right time,” Odom said at the time. “I’m feeling amazing. I’m alive, sober, and happy.”

He also reflected on how the 2020 death of his close friend Kobe Bryant could have pushed him back toward addiction, but didn’t.

“That’d have been every excuse in the world for me to go get high,” Odom said. “But doing drugs didn’t even enter my mind.”

Kardashian has also spoken candidly about Odom’s struggles. In January 2025, she discussed their relationship and its breakdown on her “Khloé in Wonder Land” podcast, explaining how his addiction worsened during the NBA offseason.

“I remember, I was married and my ex-husband had a drug addiction,” she said. “His addiction always heightened when he was in the off-season, because idle time is the devil’s playground. It took me a long time to get to, and I had to file for divorce.”
