British broadcaster and outspoken commentator Piers Morgan revealed he’s recovering in the hospital after a painful fall left him with a fractured femur and in need of hip replacement surgery.
The 60-year-old shared the news Sunday on social media, posting a selfie from his hospital bed along with a detailed — and characteristically sarcastic — breakdown of what went wrong. Giving a thumbs-up to the camera, Morgan explained that he tripped on a small step inside a London hotel restaurant and “fell like a sack of spuds.”
The tumble resulted in what doctors described as a fractured neck of the femur, an injury serious enough to require a full hip replacement.
Morgan said he’ll be on crutches for the next six weeks and won’t be able to fly long distances for at least 12 weeks while he recovers. Still, he managed to keep his sense of humor intact, joking that his “New Year (is) off to a cracking start.”
In a numbered list accompanying the photo, Morgan even managed to throw in a punchline, quipping that he blamed Donald Trump for the mishap.
Morgan currently hosts Piers Morgan Uncensored, a debate-heavy program he launched in 2022 that regularly features guests from across the political spectrum and often sparks fiery exchanges. Just days before his fall, he made headlines for a tense on-air confrontation with Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters over controversial political remarks.
This isn’t the first time Morgan has mixed medical updates with jokes. In 2019, he was hospitalized with stomach gastritis and duodenitis, which he humorously blamed on “eating a mouthful of vegan sausage roll, Brexit & Donald Trump.” The following year, he tore a tendon while on a family holiday in Saint Tropez and once again found himself relying on crutches.
