Prince William is reportedly locked in a new and deeply personal rift with his sister-in-law as plans allegedly begin to take shape for a Netflix project centered on his late mother, Princess Diana — a move sources claim the future king finds “tasteless” and deeply upsetting.

According to RadarOnline.com, the latest royal tension revolves around Meghan Markle and her behind-the-scenes involvement in a proposed documentary led by her husband, Prince Harry. The project is said to be timed around the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death in August 2027.

Sources claim Harry wants to honor his mother’s legacy through a Netflix production as part of the Sussexes’ multimillion-dollar deal with the streaming giant. But William is said to be furious at the idea of Diana’s life being revisited for what he views as commercial purposes — especially with Markle playing a key role.

The brothers’ relationship has been strained for years, particularly after Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and relocated to California. Tensions only deepened following Harry’s memoir, high-profile interviews critical of the monarchy, and ongoing public scrutiny of the royal family.

Insiders say the possibility of a Diana-focused documentary has reopened old wounds.

“Harry is completely resolute about commemorating his mother and believes he has every right to tell her story as her son,” one source claimed. “From his perspective, this isn’t something that needs William’s approval, and he resents the idea that anyone should dictate how Diana is remembered.”

What reportedly infuriates William most, however, is Meghan’s involvement.

“He sees her participation as crossing a deeply personal line,” the source said. “In his mind, allowing Meghan to shape or profit from Diana’s legacy feels like a profound betrayal of his mother’s memory.”

The documentary is said to explore Diana’s life, her treatment by the media and the royal institution, and the lasting impact of her death on her sons. While details remain closely guarded, insiders describe the project as intimate and unflinching.

Another source claimed Harry has long believed the narrative surrounding Diana was mishandled, particularly during her most vulnerable moments.

“He feels the institution failed her when she needed protection the most,” the insider said. “Because of that, he doesn’t trust the monarchy to be the guardian of her legacy. In his view, the palace forfeited that right years ago.”

That belief reportedly places Harry directly at odds with Prince William, who is said to fear his mother’s story is being exploited.

“From William’s point of view, this goes beyond previous disputes,” another insider said. “He finds the idea profoundly distasteful and believes Diana would never have wanted her life turned into a commercial streaming project.”

Netflix’s involvement is said to add fuel to the fire. The platform previously produced The Crown, a dramatized series about the royal family that William has reportedly disliked.

“The Netflix connection alone is enough to make William bristle,” a source claimed. “It brings back all the resentment he felt over The Crown and makes this feel like reopening a battle he thought was long over.”

Despite their fractured relationship, the brothers have previously come together to honor their mother. In 2017, they appeared jointly in the BBC documentary Diana, 7 Days, and in 2021 they unveiled a statue of Diana at Kensington Palace on what would have been her 60th birthday.

Harry has frequently spoken about the trauma of losing his mother at age 12 and the emotional toll of walking behind her coffin in the glare of the world’s cameras. Now, nearly three decades later, sources say the question of who controls Diana’s legacy is once again driving a wedge between the two princes — with no reconciliation in sight.
