Daniel Stern, best known for playing bumbling burglar Marv in the Home Alone movies, has been charged in California with one misdemeanor count of soliciting prostitution.
According to authorities, the charge against Daniel Stern was filed Monday, Jan. 12. A spokesperson for the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said Stern was cited at a motel in Camarillo and released at the scene. His arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 13.
TMZ previously reported the citation stemmed from an incident on Dec. 10. Prosecutors said the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office submitted the citation for review before charges were formally filed.
Stern rose to fame as one half of the “Wet Bandits” in the beloved holiday classic Home Alone, starring alongside Macaulay Culkin and Joe Pesci. The 1990 hit — and its 1992 sequel — became pop culture staples and cemented Stern’s place in movie history.
In recent years, Stern has largely stepped away from Hollywood. He now lives on a ranch in California, where he works as a sculptor and farmer, tending cattle, citrus trees, and produce with his wife.
Just weeks before the charge became public, Stern spoke about a new art project tied to his Home Alone legacy. He revealed he had been commissioned by the family that purchased the iconic Illinois house from the film to create a sculpture of himself, complete with the tarantula famously placed on his face during one of the movie’s most memorable scenes.
Stern joked that the piece would be the first self-portrait he had ever created and admitted he made himself a bit more handsome than in real life. He also said returning to the famous house would feel surreal, noting it has effectively become a tourist attraction.
The actor has previously said the financial success he enjoyed in the 1980s and 1990s gave him the freedom to leave the entertainment industry behind and focus on art, farming, and a quieter life away from the spotlight.
The misdemeanor charge remains pending, and Stern has not publicly commented on the case.
