The stepson of reality TV star Dog the Bounty Hunter is now facing the possibility of life in prison following the fatal shooting of his teenage son.

Gregory Zecca, 39, was taken into custody this week after the Collier County Sheriff’s Office announced charges connected to the July 2025 death of his 13-year-old son, Anthony.

According to authorities, Zecca was arrested on a warrant charging him with aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm and using a firearm while under the influence — offenses that carry a potential life sentence under Florida law.

Deputies responding to the scene reported smelling alcohol on Zecca and observed marijuana in plain view, officials said. A toxicology report later estimated his blood-alcohol concentration was approximately 0.116 at the time of the shooting, well above Florida’s legal limit.

Investigators say Zecca, the son of Dog’s wife Francie Chapman from a previous marriage, spent several hours drinking at a local establishment, purchased additional alcohol, and later consumed both alcohol and marijuana at a friend’s home.

At the time of the incident, Zecca and his son were inside their Naples, Florida, apartment watching a UFC fight on television. Law enforcement officials allege Zecca repeatedly handled a firearm in front of his son, practicing drawing it from his waistband and dry-firing it.

Authorities said the weapon had initially been made safe by removing the magazine and clearing a round from the chamber. However, investigators determined the magazine was later reinserted before Zecca discharged a single shot, striking Anthony.

Deputies were called to the apartment around 8 p.m. and found the teen critically injured. He was pronounced dead at 10:21 p.m. The firearm was later located on the kitchen island, according to reports.

An official report cited by TMZ stated Anthony suffered a gunshot wound to the neck, just above the sternum, with no exit wound. He had lost a significant amount of blood by the time first responders arrived. Despite CPR and other lifesaving efforts, the injuries proved fatal.

In the aftermath of the shooting, the family released a statement describing the incident as a devastating accident and asked for prayers as they mourned the loss of Anthony.

Zecca was later placed in psychiatric care following the incident. A family representative said there were concerns he might harm himself, describing his emotional state as overwhelming grief rather than guilt.

“Greg has been put on a psychiatric hold because he is so devastated by the loss of his only son,” the representative said.

In the days following the tragedy, Zecca deactivated his Instagram account. Before doing so, he had shared photos of himself with Anthony, including images of the two spending time together at a shooting range — moments that have since taken on a painful new weight as the case moves forward through the courts.
